Quote for the Day

“The reality is that we have a lot more power than we imagine, and we have to dare to do the irresponsible, the dangerous, the strange if it is the right thing even if we are in a minority of one.”

- Joe Turner, from What Is My Part?

    Hardly an original thought Rachel…

Nonetheless, I love the way you worded it.

….And is there ever truly an original thought?

As I say rarely at times of great amusement, BAH, HA-HA; great line.

This reminds me of the “subway hero,” Wesley Autrey, who jumped onto the tracks in NYC in Jan. to save a man’s life. I could not believe the criticism he received for doing this!

Interestingly, the experience has really made a mess of his life. See the NY mag article at nymag.com/news/features/30636

Pastor at my church gave a great sermon in which he asked why people don’t dare to do even little things that would help their lives (face a problem, quit a job, tell your boss what you think, etc.). In the vast majority of cases the root of inaction is fear. Frequently it isn’t even a defined fear — I don’t know what it will cost me, but I am afraid to find out. What makes this ironic for Christians is what John said in the fourth chapter of his epistle: “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” Perhaps a simplification of what Joe said would be: Dare to love like Jesus.

As if to illustrate my point, the UK government is apparently going to close DESO , which is a publicly funded agency which scandalously promotes arms manufacturers.

The protests have been led, and mainly feature, little old ladies. Whoever said that old=unimportant?

That’s wonderful, Joe! Hurray for little old lady protesters! I’m smiling because I’m thinking of a few of the little old ladies I know, especially my 87-year old Grammy. If Grammy decided that an injustice was being committed and that she was going to put stop to it, woe betide anyone who tried to stand in her way! :-)
