Upcoming Movie Review: In the Valley of Elah

Posted by Benjamin on: 09.21.2007 /

Next Friday we will be reviewing the new movie In the Valley of Elah. It’s getting 67% over at Rotten Tomatoes, so it’s got to be at least watchable. If you get a chance, see the movie this week and join us to talk about it next Friday.

    Reportedly, the movie is based on a true event. The IMDb has a somewhat mixed review. I will go see. I saw “No End In Sight” tonight which is in limited release, and disturbing to say the least. Unfortunately, showtimes are hard to find.

    The link, “true event”, in the comment above no longer works. A PTSD page contains the essential details, filed under 2003-07-14: Army Knew Accused Iraq Vet Was Homicidal. Its link to the UPI story also fails.

    Martin–wow–thanks for the timelines link. I’m going to go add in as a comment in the actual movie review.

    There’s a also a link in that review to a CBS page about the true events upon which the movie is based.

    Yes. The link in the review has much better information about the events behind the movie than the link that I posted:
    Killed on July 14th 2003;
    Mid-August the father came down;
    In September, the Army opened an investigation;
    November 7th, a tip to the location of the body reached the investigators after having circulated in the grape-vine for “a while”.
    Jan. 23, 2006, trial starts.
