what does it mean to have to pay for the monarchy? Are they supported by taxes in the UK?
I was mostly unaware of the monarchy for most of my life, until meeting Megs and her family. But I’ve since come to have a lot of respect for the Queen. She seems to be a bit of a class act. Is that actually the case? Or am I missing a few things?
On the other hand, she’s got a pretty rough gig, in one sense, doesn’t she? I mean she did over 400 gigs in 2006, I see.
I’ve often thought she doesn’t have much … freedom, in the sense that other really rich people might have. That is she seems to me to be more hemmed in by responsibility and duty than most rich people–or at least the ratio of responsibility/duty to wealth/privelege/power seems pretty severe for her. Doesn’t the position in some sense help create and maintain some kind of international community?
Just throwing questions out there. I don’t know anything about it, as I said.

Millions pay so they can live in luxury.
I’ve nothing against Elizabeth Windor personally - actually she has done a reasonable job - but the institution of the monarchy cannot be defended.
