Quote for the Day

“The war in Iraq may well turn out to be the best example of how not to confront a serious threat, how not to deal with evil, how not to defeat terrorism, how not to find security, how not to foster democracy, how not to seek peace - and, for people of faith, how not to honor God and follow Christ.”

- Jim Wallis, The Great Awakening

But despite the war in Iraq being a blunder on almost every level, the Bush administration appears hell bent on following its example with military action against Iran.

Today’s announcement that Admiral Fallon, the man in charge of US military in the middle East, will resign his post signals that there remains a massive divide between our government and the military on whether attacking our enemies is an effective tool of foreign policy. Administration officials insist Fallon’s departure does not mean an attack on Iraq is imminent, but it probably does indicate that the admiral was willing to sacrifice a 41 year military career to publicly state his opposition to our government’s intentions.

I agree with Wallis that the Iraq war is a prime example of how to do everything wrong, politically as well as spiritually. But George W. Bush and his people seem to see it as evidence we need to saddle up and do it again.
