So filthy, so rotten. Everything sucks. Everything, all of it. Nothing good, all bad, filthy, rotten. Poor Shane. Poor us, poor everyone. Plus we’re all sinners cause we can’t think of another way. Doesn’t get any worse than this.

Perhaps I missed something, but Shane’s quote seems rather positive. It seems to say that it is only a sin (of political imagination) if I choose the status quo because I think there is no alternative. If I can imagine — and maybe pursue — something different (a la Jesus in turning upside down the social order of his day), then perhaps I am on the right track.

Maybe his choice of words (filthy rotten) seems harsh. What are some alternative descriptions of the quality or comportment of our current political system?

Or maybe we should just say this is as good as it can possibly get and there is no valid criticism of how Americans or the governmental system that represents us carry out our social, economic and political policies both in this county and abroad?

Given that you’ve (apparently) got 3 candidates in the Presidential race, none of which think Global Warming is a top priority and who have all recently changed opinion on the use of biofuels (which are indirectly causing the food crisis), I’d say he is dead on the money.

What does it say about us when you have to be really rich to stand for public office anyway?

So there are about 3 out of 4 different reactions to a small blurb of sound bite thrown out there with no context provided. Just like a Reverend Wright YouTube sermon. Rachel is clever. I love to take the bait.

Actually, Joe, the bettors on intrade seem to think that Al Gore has fully a 4% chance of winning the democratic nomination. Which makes it … 4 candidates. Sort of. One of whom does seem to care rather a lot about global warming. =p

Herb, now that I know that you love to be baited, I shall try to come up with even more provocative quotes in the future. ;-)
