God told me

Posted by Joe on: 05.29.2008 /

As I’ve blogged elsewhere, I get a mite annoyed when people imply that if I disagree with them, I’m disagreeing with the Will of God.

Why do Christians speak like this? Is it some kind of power trip?

And then, this. God told him to clothes-line the sick. I need to go and watch it again, I’m not sure I quite believed my eyes.

What’s wrong with disagreeing with the Will of God? Without an actual, physical manifestation before a large number of witnesses everything that is attributed as the Will of God is open to interpretation.

Because some Christians speak as if it is the final indisputable word which cannot be disagreed with, as if they have some kind of divine hotline.

And sometimes, God tells people to punch others in the face, in love of course.

    Joe,

How do you resist the temptation to respond to this sort of thing with extremely high levels of sarcasm?

“Well God told me that what you heard was actually from Allah, not from God. But God agrees 57%. But he’s not interested in delinating *which* 57%.” must be done with a *totally* straight face and utter seriousness.

The video would work reasonably well for me as comedy–mocking the whole thing. Alas–it would appear that he’s totally serious.

Sometime there going to be a real hell raiser, fighter type listening to his stupidity, and their god is going to tell them to beat the living crap out of him. And maybe it will cause him to be a bit more careful.

Wow. And I thought Mark Driscoll was over the top!

I’d like to go to his service, sit in the front row and pray that I get the chance to be “blessed” by this guy. Then I’d simply be a conduit of that blessing and give it right back to him…ten fold. Yeah…that would be a fun night at the revival tent!

Randy–you seriously rock. i want you on my side in a fight. =)

I know a lady who got proposed to in this vein–”God has revealed to me that we are to get married”. She was really nice about it–”Well, if and when he reveals it to me too, I’ll let you know.”

(That was pretty much the end of that)

In responce to the video “God Told Me”, It’s no suprise that our culture see’s Christians as religeous fanatics. This individual (I refuse to call him pastor)is clearly Biblically illiterate in his understanding of God and His Word. He has no understanding of who he say’s he follows.

An even bigger concern is those who follow him…and Jesus wept…

yeah–sometimes I wonder just how much Jesus would be weeping, if he were around today.
