Friday video: tank man

Friday, June 27th, 2008

The Tank Man video has to be one of the most inspirational bits of tape ever recorded. I know you’ve all see it before, but it is pretty amazing so I thought it would be worth seeing again.

What, if anything, inspires you about this video and would you like to share any other video you have with us which really inspires you?

Friday Video

Friday, April 18th, 2008

For some reason the original 10 Mr. Deity videos continue to work really well for me. Make me smile, even laugh. The season 2 ones haven’t worked so well for me. E’joy.

Friday Video–Bleeding Love

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Number one on this weeks Billboard Hot 100 is “Bleeding Love” sung by Leona Lewis.

You can also watch the official U.S. version of the music video here

Or read the lyrics here (you have to scroll down a little)

Curious am I: *Why* … does this song, with these lyrics, go number one?

I don’t mean technically *how* it reached number one. I’m more curious about what it is about culture and people that made this song so popular. What does it mean that people who are pretty much in the top 20% of the richest people in the world wanna listen to this–that it … moves us? What does it say about the human condition, about our condition, our priorities, etc.?

Yes We Can

Monday, February 4th, 2008

So Rachel and I found this video really inspiring, and it seems there may be a few others like us, since it’s had nearly 500,000 views in less than 48 hours. It was directed by Bob Dylan’s son Jesse Dylan, and features Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas and footage from Barack Obama’s Yes We Can speech. We’d love to hear from you, dear fellow JaC’ers, about your reactions to the video. Or is there another candidate or message you find super inspiring? We’d love to hear about that as well.

The Davos Question

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

I learned today about the Davos Question:

“What one thing do you think that countries, companies or individuals must do to make the world a better place in 2008?”.

Apparently the world’s top leaders meet every year at World Economic Forum in Davos to discuss how to make the world a better place. This year’s meeting took place Jan 24-27 (Just last week). You tube users were invited to upload videos with their answers to the Davos Question, and some of their videos were screened at plenary sessions at the World Economic Forum. And then world leaders responded with their own videos. So you can follow it all over at the Davos Question Youtube Channel.

Best of 2007: Peace Takes Courage–Christmas Time in Iraq

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

In March we posted the video WWJD from then 16 year old peace activist Ava Lowery. Ava started the web site Peace Takes Courage, and she also has her own YouTube Video Log.

The video shows images of Iraqi children affected by the war in Iraq along with the Beatitudes and the song “Jesus Loves Me.”. It engendered a lot of very negative and positive reaction as well as news coverage. In November, Ava took the video down at the request of the the father of the boy who sang “Jesus Loves Me” in the video. Ava is now requesting children to send in their own versions of “Jesus Loves Me” and plans to choose one to put into the video.

Here is Ava’s latest video.

-What are your thoughts about the comparison/contrast between your christmas/new year’s experiences and the same-time-period experiences of those in Iraq?

Friday Video.

Friday, December 14th, 2007

H/T Claudio.

Waddya think? Sure got me!

Here’s another question. Why does the death of just a few people by violent means make the *very* top of the headlines all week long when it happens in the U.S., but the death of *lots* of people by violent means in a U.S. militarily occupied nation all week long does *not* even make the 2nd or 3rd page of headlines? Does your answer to this question relate to your reaction to the video? Why/How?
