Women’s Literacy and Health

Health problems are often exacerbated by illiteracy.  On an Asian Spice Island where we work, many people suffer from illness and preventable disease because of their poverty and distance from healthcare.  Many women are unable to fill out government forms that would entitle them and their children to free medical care.  Our International Workers are offering literacy classes for women while incorporating health clinics for their families. The most recent report from our team is that they have helped 60 women learn to read and write which has revolutionized their lives.  This fall the team will be starting two new classes with 24 more women.
